simFlow 3.0 release


It is a great pleasure to announce that simFlow 3.0 has been released. This release takes CFD simulations in OpenFOAM® 3.0 and 3.0+ to the next level. Learn more by watching a very short video available here. Highlights include:

Refreshed user interface — clearer and even more intuitive interface design helps new users to find their way around the software and further facilitates the work of professionals

Extended geometry support — STEP, IGES, BREP and STL geometry formats can be directly imported into simFlow, and boundary conditions can be easily assigned to the selected faces without splitting the geometry

Convenient mesh generation — mesh generation has been divided into the following stages: base mesh, meshing, boundary layer, so that you can create the mesh step-by-step, adjusting the settings when necessary

New initial mesh shapes — a cylindrical shape of the initial mesh improves mesh quality when solving turbomachinery-related problems, while the wedge shape allows you to simulate only a periodic subsection of the studied geometry, thus reduce the simulation time

Airfoil mesh generator — this experimental feature allows you to create a high-quality 2D mesh around an airfoil with just a single-click, only a few inputs and airfoil coordinates are required

Advanced models — Solar Load Model enables simulation of the effect of solar radiation by calculating the solar load and taking into account geographical location and the day of a year; Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) turbulence model allows for better predictions in the detached flow regions

New boundary conditions — a bunch of newly implemented boundary conditions give you a number of possibilities, for example, a periodicAMI can be used to create an interface between rotating and stationary domains or a coupling between hexahedral and tetrahedral mesh parts

User-defined passive scalar equations — these equations make it possible to calculate quantities, which do not affect the fluid flow, for example: moisture content, pollutants transport in the atmosphere or temperature in incompressible flows
